- In virtù di questa nuova situazione verificatasi, e non potendo identificare la sorgente del problema del download di file in modo da risolverlo, si è pensato di passare ad una nuova soluzione che rispettasse maggiormente lo spirito di fondo che anima il progetto CaffèBicocca. L'attenzione quindi si è rivolta verso il "dynamic web content management system" XOOPS (external link), il quale è rilasciato sotto licenza GPL (external link).

- Ci sono ovviamente delle difficoltà da risolvere, prima di poter passare in pianta stabile al nuovo portale, ed essenzialmente sono riconducibili allo spostamento dei dati accumulati fino ad oggi. La prima idea che si è avuta è stata quella di sfruttare la modularità di XOOPS al fine di spostare pezzo per pezzo tutte le features del vecchio portale sul nuovo, privilegiando quelle che danno maggiori problemi attualmente. La più immediata da risolvere quindi è certamente quella della sezione download.

- Per il forum invece di utilizzare newBB interno ai moduli di XOOPS sarebbe opportuno valutare phpBB che è uno strumento molto più maturo e diffuso e offre alcuni script di conversione da IPB già pronti.

- Un breve elenco delle possibili zone di intervento da curare con attenzione durante lo spostamento del portale sono:

  • Spostamento dei dati presenti nella sezione download, a titolo temporaneo prima di passare alla piattaforma comune, questo per ovviare all'emergenza "download" venutasi a creare su MKPortal e che alla fine è il principale motivo della necessità di migrazione.-
  • Spostamento dei dati degli utenti (login name e password principalmente);-
  • Spostamento dei dati presenti nei forums principali (quelli della Categoria Bicocca).-

- Gli altri dati disponibili, sono certamente altrettanto importanti (in quanto la loro creazione ha richiesto il lavoro da parte di qualcuno), però ai fini pratici sono meno inerenti allo svolgimento delle attività di un portale universitario.
